BYU classroom experience............

BYU has great classroom atmosphere....I am taking 4 courses this semester....

Chem 105 is fun...Dr Lamb is awesome.....We have i clicker quizzes in the class. The class is huge and lectures are accompanied by presentations in class....As a new course commences, Dr lamb doesnt wait to clear the concepts with videos,animations....Three lectures and two days a week we have ..... two days a week, learning community exercises..Great for practicing questions..

Regarding computer science......the class iss big....Power point presentation.......Java is tough.

Tips for international students to get into BYU........

here's my experience and a list of my application records.........

I had a list of colleges/universities that I would apply for. In total, I applied to 8 colleges/universities and got accepted to 4. MSU, BYU,Coe college, University of wisconsin-superior.....Loras and cornell I dint make it.... I was down to two universities MSU, BYU... ...i didnt know which to choose ...It all depended on how much scholarship I would receive.

Luckily I got half tution from BYU and chose BYU..........

Start applying early....Go right away to http://www.besmart.com/. And set up your account there. You ll get BYU net ID and password...Complete right away part 1 and part 2 of your application.....

For part 3...Take a print out of the endorsement form and go to your temple or church to receive the signature from the priest or church bishop...Complete part 6. ..Take out bank statement and complete part 8.

The rest you have, are the most important parts of this application process.

1)High school report
2) SAT(I got 1290)
3) TOEFL(IBT 94)
4)Student essay

The essay is the deciding factor... I spent about a month or so just preparing for the essay......Take a page ...find a quite room...peaceful place and then reflect upon what matters to you the most in life, some inspiring moments, how you overcame a unique but difficult obstacle..and do lots of drafts.....For grammers you can google some sites that help you with your grammers and structures of your essays.

Also do include some supporting materials....Since I had no extra curricular records...I met my school counselor and talked to him, requested him to make me a strong recommendation letter...
I added 4 recommendation letters...one from counselor and 3 from teachers

Do consider this point....As the year passes, I guess, applying and getting admitted to the college of your choice may become tougher and tougher......When I was applying BYU the acceptance rate was pretty high 75% I think, Now it has shrinked to 68%....So has its ranking changed from 112 to 71.

Take every part of your application elements seriously...

Testing centre..........

BYU has a testing center where you go to take majority of your exams. Its a cool building.....You give your exam, and before you exit the building you get to see your scores right away giving assurance to your effort....The scores get posted on the screen.......

The daily life at BYU may seem mundane to someone But for me thats what i enjoy..........While you enter BYU you will see a big sign on the side of the road stating "Enter to learn, go forth to serve".....That's what literally is inside BYU.....

.BYU strives its best to make its students occupy every single instance of their time in some reasonable work ......To make students practice the materials they learn....BYU has lots of activities and plans in consideration........You ave online quizzes, reading quizzess, classroom iclicker activities, online homeworks, paper homeworks, and yes....per semester you can expect to have 3 major exams...But that depends on your course....

But,thats not to say you dont have fun here....It all depends on you....And how you mangae your time.....Even in the most hectic time around the year, people seem to allocate time for fun...For fun, you have tons of activities ....and thats another part of BYU experience which deserves next post.....

Lots of seminars...........

Walking through the talmage corridor, a golden board captivates your attention......You see a bunch of logos....and there it has the names of those great campanies that you always dreamt of getting into. Yes! these are active recuiters of BYU computer science graduates.

The first one you see is "Sun microsystems" ...Now how cool is that...Adobe systems....Exxon Mobil and the list goes on.....

Within just a month....BYU invited about 7 speakers represeting different corporations and fields for their presentation

The computer science career fair featured 3 potential computer science graduates recuits.

Disney Interactive studios.......The presentation was great....The lecture started with the division of labour that inteactive disney had....The level were design art and programming.........An internship youll start as an entry level salary of 60k.

Second was National instruments

This company is active recuiter of computer science and engineering graduates...The company boasts on its ability to develp embed systems through cutting edge technologies.......Well this is a fortune 100 company..So payouts need not be dissccused here........

Third was exxon mobil......mainly for computer science graduates...it recuits engineers but mostly programmers...... to develop simulations, models to assist engineers.

Overall the presentation was great.......BYU hosts lots of presentation every month so its really nice to be a part of such great experience being in a room and listening and pondering over the talk of a representative from your dream company

Interested in account......

BYU has one of the nation's strongest management programs. Its undergradaute management programs was ranked 31st in the whole nation in the latest US news ranking. Marriott school of management has three major undergraduate courses. Information Systems, Accountancy and Management. There are two minors: Management minor, Strategy minor.

Seminars...........

One nice thing about being a part of a university rather than a college is you have lots to do....... University is a big place and so are possibilities.......I remember(during my applcation process) someone suggesting me to consider getting in a college than in a university "youll get lost in a univeristy". I have discovered yes,,university is a big place but thats to your advantage as big means you have now big possibilities.........

Each tuesday BYU hosts devotional in the marroit centre. Some days ago, a guest speaker comes ...Niel Tyson astro physicist..was the host...Well i couldnt join him but i did enjoy the presentation online.....The presentation was a great experience.....I really enjoyed his talk about 10 things you must know about this universe..........Did you know how vast the universe really is....In this vast expanse even the speed of light is not reasonable....did you know had there been life in outer space or lets say in the nearest star......at the very moment, the inhabitants there would be seeing dinosaurs here in earth .....thats amazing........

Experience reality........

BYU is really a great place to earn your education. Heres my perspective. Students here are smart as well as amiable. College life is always tough everyday. I now understand why college/universities emphasize more on your academic records in the selection process more than anything else ..Its for your own benefit cause you wont be able to catch up with the pace on which the institution moves unless you deserve to be in that place which is reflected by the level of effort you didd in your past year...Everyday you have tons of reading and homework assignments. I hae taken just 4 classes this semester and it seems i well.....all the courses for this year..........

Some points to consider.......

For some reason it seems, BYU places more emphasis on your academic records than on your test scores. So, its better to start working to get your grades up. While I was applying to BYU, I googled a lot comparing the statistics of those who got accepted to BYU and found that majority of those who got in had either good academic records or good participation in extra curicular activvities, but majority had great GPAs. There are examples of those having perfect or great scores in SAT being rejected.

Its so may be because the long term academic record is a better representation of your academic success in college than your short term standarized test record.

This one fact is important to bear in mind.

But, Dont be distressed if you have lower academic scores.

I have also seen numerous instances of people getting in even with low scores . In this case, the point is to write a strong application essay. People simply ignore this important part thinking their impressive academic and curricular record is enough to appeal the grader.Make your essay strong. I remember giving a month or so writing my essay.
